TBAS Tips
Directional Orientation Test
The direction orientation score is determined by accuracy and speed of your answers. The best way to prepare for this section is to create flashcards and to review them until you have them memorized. This will drastically improve your scores and will shorten your response time to each question. The first time I took the TBAS I wasn’t prepared and even though I answered most of the questions right my responses took too long and it affected my overall PCSM score. When I retested I made sure to create flashcards and to review them until I had them memorized. This made a huge difference. You should be able to google premade TBAS flash cards but personally I created my own to practice with, just to make sure that they were right.
Airplane and Horizontal Tracking Test
In my opinion the best way to prepare for this section of the test is to improve your hand eye coordination using a joystick. Any video game that requires you to use a joystick will help you improve your hand eye coordination and will get you comfortable with using a joystick. Before my test I played ACE COMBAT on X-Box 360. After I got the game I played it at least three times a week. Once I took the test I felt comfortable with using the joystick and I believe that my hand eye coordination improved. As far as the horizontal tracking test is concerned I didn’t really practice as much as I should have. The only way for you to practice getting used to pedals is to play flight simulator games that utilize rudder pedals.
Multi-Tasking Test
This test section challenges you in many ways and you need to be able to multitask. The section is broken down into several key tasks. They test your memorization, listening, visual and arithmetic skills. In my opinion I believe that the memorization portion is really important and if you struggle with being able to memorize things quickly I suggest that you practice. There are several ways to improve your short term memory. Here are a few links to some tips & tricks to help you out. I also suggest working on your mental math skills. There are tons of apps that you can download on your phone to help improve your mental math abilities.
